Get ready to revisit the opera that started it all. Operantics returns its roots with a new production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte for Hayes Theatre Co’s 2027 season, presented in partnership with Lyric Arts.
A reckless bet puts two seemingly perfect relationships to the test. Disguises are donned, identities confused and loyalties tested as a game of love and fidelity begins to reveal more than anyone bargained for. Funny, moving and filled with some of Mozart’s most glorious music, Così fan tutte turns romantic comedy into a surprisingly earnest examination of love, desire and human nature.
Directed by Matthew Barclay and conducted by Dr Philip Eames, this new chamber production takes its cue from the opera’s subtitle, La scuola degli amanti, or The School for Lovers. In the intimacy of Hayes Theatre Co, audiences will be brought close to the singers, musicians and unfolding experiment, with character and storytelling at the heart of the production. Così fan tutte asks us to consider what happens when the game is over and everyone must live with what they have learned, and with what they have done.
