Australian born soprano of Indian heritage, Deepka Ratra grew up in Tamworth. She was given the opportunity to study voice under the Tamara Private Vocal Scholarship at the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music. At 23 years of age, she has completed a Bachelor of Music Performance in Classical Voice, and a Master in Opera Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Deepka recently performed the role of Despina in the Sydney Conservatorium Opera Studio’s production of Cosi Fan Tutte (Mozart), where she worked alongside Michael Halliwell. Three months earlier she had the privilege of undertaking an internship for Opera Australia’s production of Simon Boccanegra (Verdi), where she worked with Maestro Renato Palumbo, chorus master Anthony Hunt and the Opera Australia chorus. As part of the Sydney Conservatorium Opera Studio, Deepka has performed the role of Herald of Dawn: The Fairy Queen (Purcell), Princess Caraboo: English Eccentrics (Williamson), covered Madame Herz: The Double Bill: The Old Maid and the Thief (Menotti) and Der Schauspieldirektor (Mozart), as well as appearing as a soloist in MASS (Bernstein) at the Sydney Opera House, where she had the privilege of working alongside Barry Ryan and Christopher Hillier.
Deepka has also worked as a solid ensemble member for the Conservatorium’s production of Suor Angelica (Puccini), Opera New England’s production of Susannah (Floyd), La Traviata (Verdi), Carmen (Bizet) and La Boheme (Puccini). Deepka looks forward to making her debut with Operantics for their production of Die Fledermaus (Strauss II) in 2017, where she will be taking the stage as Adele.
