Bass-baritone Christopher Curcuruto commenced his performance studies with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Theatre Studies at the University of New England. Christopher later co-founded Felt Tip Theatre Company, a regional touring company, before undertaking further postgraduate studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), graduating with a Graduate Diploma of Music (Classical Performance).
In 2016 he was selected to participate in the Pacific Opera Young Artist Program, and co-founded Bare Bones Opera, which staged its debut production, a triple bill of operas on the theme of Mozart and Salieri, in August.
Christopher enjoys oratorio and concert performance and recent appearances include: bass soloist in Gounod’s St. Cecilia’s Mass at the 19th Annual Armidale Music Foundation Choral and Orchestral Weekend under Paul Holley; bass soloist Handel’s Messiah with Artes Christi; bass soloist in Durufle’s Requiem (WAAPA); as well as many gala and concert performances with Pacific Opera. Later this year, Christopher looks forward to appearing as bass soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony 9 with Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, under Dr Nicholas Milton.
Christopher’s recent operatic role credits include: Mars in Orpheus in the Underworld with Rockdale Opera Company; the Marquis D’Obigny in La Traviata (Opera New England); Zuniga in Carmen (Opera New England); Harašta in The Cunning Little Vixen (Pacific Opera); Peter in Hansel and Gretel (WAAPA); Gideon March/Mr Dashwood in Little Women (WAAPA); Macheath in The Threepenny Opera (Felt Tip Theatre Company). Upcoming role engagements include Kecal in The Bartered Bride with Rockdale Opera Company.
