Amy Balales studied music from a young age, completing her undergraduate study as a flautist before transitioning to voice. She earned her Graduate Diploma in performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the guidance of Barry Ryan. Amy’s passion for singing was initially fostered by a strong association with choral singing, and she toured extensively as a developing artist. Amy is currently studying with Stephen Yalouris, exploring coloratura soprano repertoire.
Amy has a strong affinity for the operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan. Her first experience of this repertoire was as a member of the orchestra for Gilbert and Sullivan Society of South Australia. In 2015 she made her stage debut in the role of Giulia in the G&S Opera Sydney production of The Gondoliers. Amy's was recently awarded first place in the Sydney Eisteddfod duet section, and was runner up in the operatic aria section of the Adelaide Eisteddfod. This year Amy made her operatic debut as Julia Bertram in Operantics' production of Mansfield Park.
